DALLAS—Renee Mallonee, director of marketing for MONI Smart Security, has been with the company for 10 years, starting as a marketing coordinator in 2007 and also serving as a marketing manager before entering her current role.
“I’ve really had a nice career trajectory here at MONI and been able to grow the team,” she told Security Systems News. The company has increased its marketing efforts since Mallonee started, she noted.
The marketing team consisted of about five employees when Mallonee started and now there are more than 20. “I manage a group of up to seven or eight,” she said. “It’s exciting to see that MONI really has invested in marketing.”
The company rebranded itself from the name Monitronics at the end of September 2016—“I was a big part of that project,” Mallonee said, adding that she and MONI have focused on “building the brand and ensuring that we maintain a B2B and a B2C position within the marketplace.”
Mallonee studied marketing in college and applied to MONI after graduating from the University of Kentucky.
Mallonee said she has been seeing more women in the industry. “Ten years ago, it was quite a different landscape. Honestly, there weren’t that many women in the field and I have noticed that as a significant change over the last 10 years—something that I’m really excited about that makes me want to stay in the security industry,” she said.
Mentoring can be a good way to include more women in the industry and in executive roles, according to Mallonee. She said that she has women on her team; “I’ve tried to do my best to coach and mentor those women so they can also grow their own careers,” said Mallonee. She lauded the efforts of the ASIS Women in Security Council.Residential Tags: Renee Mallonee, MONI Smart Security, women in security
